SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A state Supreme Court jury finds a 36-year-old Syracuse woman guilty of manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend last year.
The jury acquitted Olive Stoutenger of the more serious charge of second-degree murder in the death of Edward Hardter. The panel reached a verdict Tuesday afternoon after deliberating since Friday.
Stoutenger was accused of intentionally killing Hardter by stabbing him in the chest in October 2009. A conviction on a second-degree murder charge would have carried a maximum penalty of 25 years to life in prison. The manslaughter conviction carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.
Sentencing is on Jan. 10.
