OMAHA - A federal jury has convicted a Nebraska man of murder for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend on the Santee Sioux Indian Reservation.
According to court documents, Shanon R. Thomas, 33, was found guilty Friday afternoon of first-degree murder and using a firearm during a crime of violence.
Thomas, a resident of the reservation, was charged in connection with the shooting death of Dawn Starlin, 46, on April 18 in Santee, Neb. According to court documents, Santee police found Starlin dead of multiple gunshot wounds near a building on His Red Nation Street in Santee.
Authorities believe Thomas shot Starlin hours after she was accused of vandalizing the house of his current girlfriend, who was one of her neighbors.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 28 in U.S. District Court in Omaha.
