MARTINSVILLE, Va. — A 21-year-old man has been charged with the involuntary manslaughter of his live-in girlfriend after handling a gun that went off, according to a news release.
At 11:24 a.m. Friday, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Bassett Volunteer Rescue Squad were dispatched to 2644-1 Fairystone Park Highway in Bassett, Va., where Rosa Anne Milligan, 18, was found dead of a gunshot wound.
Austin William Prater, 21, was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Prater has been cooperative with investigators, according to a news release. In his statement, he said was handling a handgun when it went off.
He is currently held in the Henry County Jail under a $5,000 bond. The case is still under investigation.
