Satellite Beach, FL: Police: Brevard Man Opens Fire On Family
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. -- Two people were killed and two more remain hospitalized after a man opened fire on his own family Sunday night, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.Police in Satellite Beach said the gunman is among the dead. The two injured family members are being treated at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Brevard County. Thomas Harold Field said he left his Satellite Beach home just an hour before he opened fire on his family."I believe he was mentally disturbed anyway," Field said. "He had a great deal of anger. When things didn't go is way, he would almost explode."Police said Gabriel Field shot his live-in girlfriend, her mother and his own mother at their home on Grant Avenue at about 6:30 p.m.Police said they entered the home through an unlocked front door while the gunman was still firing."Our officer returned the fire," Satellite Beach Police Chief Lionel Cote said.Both the shooter and his girlfriend were killed.Police said Field's 1-month-old daughter was also in the home at the time of the shooting and was not hurt.The shooter's father said his son had been in and out of juvenile detention centers and prisons. He said he was always afraid something like this would happen."His ambition was to have a big shootout with the police. He got his wish, I think," Field said.
