LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB-TV Fox 41) -- Domestic violence may be the root of a homicide in Pleasure Ridge Park.
What started as a death investigation Tuesday became a murder case Wednesday when the coroner's office determined that 27-year-old Ashley Davis had been strangled in her apartment.
Police have charged 32-year-old Michael Dion Greene with murder.
Davis's mother hopes her daughter's murder will give domestic violence victims the strength to seek out help. Connie Parker calls her daughter's death a wake-up call to victims everywhere.
Greene is due in court Thursday morning. Greene sat in Metro Corrections Wednesday night awaiting that arraignment hearing.
Police believe he killed Davis despite two court orders to stay away from her.
Her family described Ashley Davis as someone looking to reconcile with her ex-husband -- and a devoted mother to her three-year-old child.
Davis' mother, Connie Parker, told Fox 41 News her daughter did not deserve to die.
Parker and police said Davis had troubles recently involving an ex-boyfriend named Michael Greene.
He's the man now charged with her murder.
Police say they found Davis' body inside her apartment on Fox Run Court in Pleasure Ridge Park Tuesday.
Police arrested Greene a few hours later, in Louisville after they say they found him with Davis's car and cell phone. However, the murder charge didn't come until the autopsy found Davis had been strangled.
The story surprised one neighbor, who asked not to be identified.
She'd come to know Davis in her few months at the Hunter's Run Apartments.
"It's just a shame somebody that young -- you hear about domestic violence, but you don't think it's going to happen to someone you know or someone what lives close by you. You need to take it serious(ly)," the neighbor said.
Police described one of two court orders in effect against Greene.
"There was an emergency protective order issued. That emergency protective order had not been served yet," said Ofc. Carey Klain, Metro Police spokesperson.
Police and court records showed Ashley Davis had sought the EPO against Greene after he assaulted her in late October.
A judge also had ordered Greene not to have contact with Davis.
Thursday morning, Greene is scheduled to answer charges of murder and robbery at his arraignment. He also is charged with receiving stolen property and contempt of court in connection with Davis' death. Ashley Davis worked for University of Louisville.
Her family says funeral arrangements are incomplete with W. G. Hardy Funeral Home on Dixie Highway.
