GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - A 53-year-old Attalla man has been charged with murder in the strangulation death of his wife, whose body was found in the trunk of her car in Gadsden.
Gadsden Police Capt. Regina May says Roy Thomas "Tommy" Smith was charged Thursday and is being held on $50,000 cash bond.
His wife, 44-year-old Carla Parton Smith, was a nursing supervisor at Riverview Regional Medical Center's emergency department.
Her body was found in the car trunk on Monday. A search had begun earlier that day when she failed to show up for work. The car was found parked in a gravel lot.
Etowah County Coroner Michael Gladden says a preliminary autopsy shows that Carla Smith died from manual strangulation.
