Weatherford, TX: Murder-suicide in Parker County

A suspected murder and suicide happened in the 4000 block of Tin Top Road, Weatherford, this afternoon, said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler.

According to a release by the sheriff's office, the Parker County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the death of two people found at a residence this afternoon.

Fowler said the victims -- James Good and Jean Good -- were said to be husband and wife and both appeared to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The call was placed to dispatch just after 1 p.m. The couple was discovered in the yard of the home near a rear entrance of the residence, according to the sheriff's office.

A family friend was said to have visited the home to check on the welfare of the couple, found the couple and dialed 911. A handgun was found at the scene, which will be processed as evidence and submitted to a crime lab.

Fowler said there was not a history of calls for the address. The victims will be transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office in Fort Worth, where an autopsy will be performed on both James Good, 67, and Jean Good, 73.

Investigators are not releasing further details of the incident, pending the ongoing investigation and autopsy results.

“We are still obviously in the early stages of the investigation,” Fowler said. “The manner and means of the deaths will be withheld pending autopsies. We do not wish to speculate beyond what we currently know. Any casualty such as this is just a sad situation all the way around.”

Neighbors across the street, Bill and Pam Homsher, said the couple was from Arizona and had only been living in the community about six months.

Bill Homsher said he saw Good working on his fence one day and he seemed to be a happy man and in good health.

“He seemed in good spirits,” Bill Homsher said.”He seemed just fine.”

Pam Homsher said she saw Jean Good wave to her once but had never met her.
