ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A Rochester man has been convicted of shooting his ex-girlfriend to death after she taunted him with cell phone text messages over a $2,000 debt she owned him.
A state Supreme Court jury deliberated four hours Tuesday before finding 35-year-old Jason Clark guilty of second-degree murder in the Jan. 10 slaying of Nina Smith.
Authorities say Clark used a rifle to fire 13 shots at the 29-year-old Smith as she drove past his house. Police say 1 of the bullets struck her in the head.
During the trial, prosecutors say Clark texted Smith shortly before the shooting, demanding that she repay the $2,000 she owed him. Prosecutors say Smith responded with taunts about the money and Clark's wife.
Smith worked as a teacher's aide in the Rochester public school system.
