BAD AXE — A Bad Axe woman is facing a felony charge for driving away after her fiancé dove from her moving vehicle.
Jessica S. Chubb, 28, was arraigned Monday on one count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing the death of Robert B. Arntz.
The 42-year-old Bad Axe man died March 13, nearly three weeks after the Feb. 21 incident on West Kinde Road just east of Grassmere in Meade Township, Bay City Times records show.
Huron County Sheriff’s deputies have said Chubb drove about 15 minutes back to Bad Axe after Arntz leapt from the 2002 Pontiac Montana she was driving about 45 miles per hour, according to Times archives.
A tow truck driver found Arntz face down and partially in a ditch, records show.
Meanwhile, Chubb reported the incident to a family member and they headed back toward the scene but returned to Bad Axe after spotting emergency vehicles, investigators have alleged.
Chubb, who is free on $3,500 bond, is to return to court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Sept. 22.
At that time, District Judge David B. Herrington will rule on whether the evidence provides probable cause for the case to proceed to Circuit Court.
