A man is suspected of killing his girlfriend and then driving off with the corpse to an apartment complex in American Canyon, according to police.
Vallejo police received a report Monday from a woman who said her estranged husband had told her he had just killed his girlfriend of 10 months, Vallejo police said. They identified the woman as Ritchie Lei Lusung Campued.
Police could not find the woman at home, but received information later that her silver Toyota Tacoma truck was parked near the tennis courts of Glen Cove Park east of Interstate 80, according to police. Officers found the truck covered with “a large amount of blood,” Vallejo police said.
American Canyon police said Vallejo police sent an electronic flier with information on the suspect.
Just before 5 p.m. Monday, a man called from The Lodge to report a fight, American Canyon Police Sgt. Chris Perry said. The Lodge on Eucalyptus Drive is next to the Walmart Supercenter.
Police arrived to the apartment complex to find the suspect, William Espinosa Ubando, 39, of Vallejo, and a friend of Ubando’s, police said.
Inside Ubando’s silver Scion parked in the parking lot, police officers found the body of a woman on the floorboard of the front passenger seat, according to information from Vallejo and American Canyon police.
“The victim appeared to have sustained multiple blunt force trauma to the body,” Perry said. “She was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.
Vallejo police then took custody of Ubando. Vallejo police is the lead agency because the killing occured there, Perry said.
Vallejo police said the woman is believed to be Ritchie Campued. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Ubando does not have a criminal record, according to Vallejo police. He was arrested and booked in the Solano County jail on suspicion of kidnapping and murder.
The slaying is the 13th homicide in Vallejo this year, according to police records.
