PHOENIX -- Phoenix police are investigating after they say a 47-year-old man shot his estranged girlfriend then killed himself.
The shooting happened at an apartment complex near 40th Street and Camelback Road Sunday afternoon.
Randy Goff said he talked to the suspect, Daniel Tamuty, minutes before the shooting. He said the man and woman were on opposite sides of the pool.
"He's yelling obscene things to her, calling her names," Goff said. "The security guard just escorts him out."
A short time later, Tamuty reappeared with a gun.
According to Phoenix police Detective James Holmes, Tamuty went to his ex-girlfriend's apartment. He knocked on the door and when the victim approached, Tamuty fired several bullets through the door, striking her twice.
Holmes said Tamuty then turned the gun on himself and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 30-year-old victim suffered two gunshot wounds to her leg and hand. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Holmes said the victim's 10-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old friend were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but they were not hurt.
At this time, it is unknown when or how the relationship ended. Police say the pair did not live in the same apartment, but both lived at the complex.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
