MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery police have caught the alleged shooter in Tuesday morning's homicide on the city's east side. The murder occurred after a domestic dispute between a man and his ex-wife. The identities of the suspect and victim have now been released.
Policed arrived on the scene around 10am after a domestic dispute call. That's when they found Daphne Stephenson, 39. The woman had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses say the victim's ex-husband, Randy Stephenson, 40, was at the home at the time of the murder. Police say the motive appears to have stemmed from an argument that occurred between the ex-couple a short time earlier.
After gunshots were fired, the suspect fled the scene to a home on Wentworth Drive where police believed the man had barricaded himself inside the house. That wasn't the case, however. The suspect contacted a friend who works with the United States Marshals Service in Montgomery and told the friend that he was at his home and wanted to turn himself in.
Captain Keith Barnett of the Montgomery Police Department said units "were able to locate him and take him into custody without incident."
Randy Stephenson is being charged with murder and placed into the Montgomery County Jail under a $75,000 bond.
