LYNN, Mass. -- A man is in custody after police say he drove his car onto the sidewalk and hit his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend on purpose in Lynn on Tuesday morning.
Roberto Lopez of East Boston has been charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after striking the pair in front of a restaurant on Union Street, according to investigators. The two victims, Vilma Rosalez of East Boston and Edwin Pineda of Somerville, suffered serious injuries. The 28-year-old Pineda reportedly has two broken legs, while the female victim, also 28, has a broken pelvis. She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The driver plowed the couple down and then proceeded to scream and swear at the victims, according to witnesses. Those nearby say they also heard the female victim express concern about her baby, but it's unclear if she is pregnant.
"I saw the girl was pregnant. A guy came up right on the side of the road on the sidewalk and smashed right into her. The girl was on the ground, and he was trying to help her. It was awful," said Vinny Migliore, a witness.
Left behind on the sidewalk were two pairs of shoes, possibly belonging to the victims.
The car in the alleged incident endured front-end damage.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
