Couple’s deaths resulted from apparent murder/suicide
An elderly Tiger Point couple was found deceased on Wednesday, June 2 in their home in the 3500 block of Hillsdale Avenue, victims of an apparent murder/suicide.
Roland Kelly, 87, and his wife, Doris Kelly, 88, were discovered on a sofa in the master bedroom, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. Both suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.
Roland Kelly was found with a revolver still in his hand. A hand-written note signed by both victims was left inside the bedroom. The note, dated Sunday, May 30, indicated that both adults were willing participants in their deaths.
The call for assistance came after the victims’ neighbors checked on the Kellys after not seeing them for a few days. According to investigators, one of the neighbors made entry into the house and found the residents deceased.
Substantial health issues appeared to be a motivating factor.
Doris Kelly was active in the Gulf Breeze Historical Society.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
