Emmaus man tried to kill self twice after strangling girlfriend, he told police.

The lawyer for the man accused of killing his girlfriend Friday in Emmaus said the two had a loving relationship, but her family did not approve of it and the young couple felt they could only be together in death.
"As bizarre and strange as that may sound, that was the reason for this tragic series of events," attorney John Waldron said Monday.
Darius K. Maurer told police he and Donya Sinan Abdulrazzak had sex, then he strangled and punched her and left her body in woods along the Rodale walking trail, according to court records. Hours later, Maurer twice tried to kill himself, first by stabbing himself in the chest and then by crashing his sport utility vehicle on Route 309, the court records say.
