St. Charles, MO: William Taylor: Convicted of Stabbing to Death 61-Year-Old Girlfriend with Screwdriver

It took jurors in St. Charles six hours yesterday to convict William E. Taylor of first-degree murder in the gruesome murder of his on-again-off-again girlfriend Harriet "Pat" Mallow.

Taylor, 47, was found guilty of breaking into Mallow's home in May 24, 2007, and stabbing her 22 times with a screwdriver. Taylor had told acquaintances that if he couldn't have the 61-year-old Mallow, no one could.

Jurors saw video testimony of Taylor confessing to the crime. His attorney, meanwhile, attempted to discredit the confession, saying it was induced after hours of testimony in which a hungry and tired Taylor was not accompanied by a lawyer.

Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty, meaning that Taylor will likely spend the rest of his life in prison following his July sentencing.
