MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said officers were called to a battery in progress.
Flynn said, "A suspect with a protective order against him was threatening the woman who had gotten the protective order with a knife."
Firefighters were also on scene to help as two officers approached the suspect, 47, who was holding the weapon.
"Two of our officers confronted the suspect who had a knife and was threatening the woman who had the restraining order, said Flynn, "He did not obey their orders to drop the knife. The officers were forced to use deadly force."

Police said the suspect killed had a record of battery and theft. The department could not say which officer fired the shots, but gave details about their backgrounds. Flynn said the 31-year-old officer involved is a seven year veteran while the 28-year-old officer has been on the job for one year. Neither officer was injured. Neighbors meanwhile, are frustrated with the violence.
Luis Gonzales who lives nearby said, "You know summer is coming and it's getting worst. The neighbors and I are tired of this. We're done."
Police shot and killed a suspect in the same area on March 20.
