Logan County, WV: Two dead after apparent murder-suicide in Logan County

by From staff reports

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. -- Two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Logan County.

Sgt. Sonya Porter of the Logan Sheriff's Department said two officers were dispatched to a home on Pond Drive in Pecks Mill Sunday morning after a person called 911 and told dispatchers a woman was shot at the home and a man was threatening suicide.

Cpl. B.D. Cobb and Deputy S.D. Townsend arrived at the home and found Stacey Hensley, 31, of Chapmanville lying in the driveway near a gold Saturn with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a news release.

Hensley asked the deputies to help her and told them Michael Deckard, 59, shot her.

The deputies found Deckard dead on the dining room floor, the release said.

Hensley was airlifted to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Hensley and Deckard's bodies were transported to the state Medical Examiner's office for autopsy.

Investigators recovered a 12-gauge shotgun from the scene and believe that was the weapon used in both shootings. Both individuals suffered gunshot wounds to their chests.

Deputies said at this time the evidence points to murder-suicide. They have not said how the two knew each other or what their relationship was.
