A woman was shot to death yesterday and a man seriously wounded in what Chesterfield County police are calling a domestic-related shooting between a former couple.
Chrystal D. Snipes, 27, a mother of two, was shot and killed outside her family's home in the 10200 block of Reams Road, police said.
At 3:36 p.m., police received a call for shots fired at a home off Reams Road, near Mistywood Road and across from Reams Elementary School. When officers arrived, they found a woman dead with gunshot wounds outside the front door and a still-conscious man, who also had been shot, said Chesterfield police Capt. Terry Patterson.
Both victims apparently lived at the address with as many as five other people, including several children, Patterson said. The two victims had at one time been romantically involved, police believe.
The investigation is ongoing, but Patterson said it appears the man fatally shot his former girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself.
The man was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was able to speak briefly with officers before being rushed to the hospital.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?

This is so very sad. The victim had previously sought a restraining order, but it was denied by the judge.
