Chesterfield Township -- Police say charges are expected tomorrow for a 32-year-old man jailed in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend's former boyfriend Wednesday.

Chesterfield Police say Lemontrael Jason Coleman, who lives in a trailer park community near 24 Mile and Gratiot, stabbed his live-in girlfriend's former boyfriend in the back several times during an altercation around 4:30 p.m. while the woman was away at work.

The 29-year-old victim, who police are declining to name until his identity is confirmed via fingerprints, was from Sterling Heights. He shared a 10-year-old child with the woman and stopped at the trailer home to "voice his displeasure with the way Coleman treats the family," said Chesterfield Township Police Sgt. Deron Myers.

Police say the woman started a relationship with Coleman while her former boyfriend was serving time in prison for a burglary offense. The woman and Coleman have three children, ages 5, 4, and eight months.

The couple's three kids and the victim's 10-year-old child were present when the stabbing occurred, Myers said.

He said the woman's mother showed up at the trailer and called 911 after the incident.

Myers said an autopsy was conducted today and found the victim died of stab wounds to the back. Coleman does not have any apparent injuries, he said.

Myers said Coleman initially fled the scene but later turned himself in after seeing his photograph and name broadcast on television as a "person of interest" in the murder. Myers said Coleman arrived at the police station around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, accompanied by a family member.

He is in the Macomb County Jail.

The children were unharmed and have been turned over to a relative.

Police say Coleman also was wanted on an unrelated felony assault warrant out of Port Huron.

The investigation is ongoing. Findings are expected to be turned over to the Macomb County Prosecutor's office tomorrow morning, Myers said.
