A Ceres man convicted of assaulting his girlfriend and killing her young daughter's dog was sentenced to nearly three years in state prison, authorities said.
Roy Allen Guice Jr., 32, was convicted of felony domestic violence and animal cruelty after the March 10 attack, according to Carol Shipley, Stanislaus County assistant district attorney.
Guice killed the dog after throwing it against a parked car, prosecutors said.
When his girlfriend tried to intervene, he pushed her to the ground and hit and kicked her in the arms, legs and face.
She sustained several bruises as a result of the attack.
Guice reportedly entered a no-contest plea, and Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge John Whiteside sentenced him to two years and eight months.
