Pojoaque, NM: Pojoaque shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

Santa Fe County sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting in Pojoaque that left one man dead and another man injured Sunday morning.

Sheriff's officials say the incident occurred at about 6 a.m. at the Pojoaque Terrace Mobile Home Estates.

Officials say Bernardino Valdez, 41, was shot and killed and 21-year-old Raul Gutierrez, both of Nambe, was shot twice. Gutierrez was airlifted to UNM Hospital and is expected to survive.

The two men allegedly were banging on the door of Kevin Cox, 40, looking for Valdez's girlfriend following an argument.

Valdez and Gutierrez reportedly forced their way into the home when Cox shot the two inside the home.

Cox called 911 following the shooting.

Officials have not determined whether any charges will be filed in the incident.
