Will be sentenced May 17 in death of husband

LAUREL — After less than two hours of deliberation, a Jones County jury delivered a guilty verdict in the murder trial of Laurel resident Belinda Boleyn.
While the jury found Boleyn guilty of manslaughter and not murder, she will still face significant time behind bars for shooting and killing her husband, Michael Boleyn, in April 2005.
Belinda Boleyn’s attorney, James K. Dukes, Sr., asked for a delay in sentencing, which was granted in order for the defense to line up witnesses to testify on his client’s behalf.
Judge Billy Joe Landrum has scheduled the sentencing for May 17.
Jones County District Attorney Tony Buckley called the victory “a big day” for himself and Assistant District Attorney J. Ronald Parrish.
“We were behind the 8 ball the entire time against the best defense lawyers in the state,” he said. “We thought we were losing from the beginning.”
