Lansing, MI: Man Charged With Lansing Township Murder

Posted: Apr 09, 2010 5:19 PM EDT

A Lansing man has been charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Megan Collins died Thursday morning after police say someone broke into her Lansing Township apartment, killed her, then took off in her car. As it turns out, Collins knew the man suspected in her murder. It seems this is a case of domestic violence. Raynada Jones was charged in the murder of Megan Collins. Friends say that Jones is Megan's ex-boyfriend. Megan took out a personal protection order against Jones. It's filled out and signed by Megan in August of last year. It says, "Ray threatened to take my life. We recently broke up and he wanted me back and I said no, and he's upset." We talked to one of Megan's friends who says the two had a very rocky relationship.

Kristina Pierce, friend: "It just sucks to have to watch her go like that. She took all the necessary legal steps. She took out a PPO against him and he just kept coming after her."

Kristina Pierce says she met Megan Collins about 3 years ago and they've been friends ever since.

Kristina Pierce: "She became like my older sister."

Kristina says she has many fond memories of Megan, like riding around in her truck, the same truck that's now evidence in her murder.

Kristina Pierce: "That's been her truck forever, she's a big truck girl, she loved that truck."

Among the memories though, Kristina says the last time she talked to Megan will always stick out in her mind.

Kristina Pierce: "Tuesday, I called her because I'm trying to get into college and I asked her if i could borrow money for the application fee."

Because she said it's just like Megan to lend to hand.

Kristina Pierce: "She had a big heart she loved helping people."

Jones is also charged with home invasion, carrying a concealed weapon in an automobile and the fourth charge is called habitual second, that means this isn't his first brush with the law. He's expected to be back in court on April 22nd. Until then he'll stay in the Ingham County Jail.
