The man whom police have listed as a person of interest in the shooting death of 33-year-old Carmen D. Ramos had made verbal threats to shoot her after he reportedly beat her, according to a protective order Ramos filed.
Fort Wayne Police and emergency medical workers came across Ramos' body in her apartment at 6:20 p.m. Sunday. Police noted Ramos had a history of domestic violence, and had a protective order filed.
That order, now inactive, filed in Allen Superior Court works to shed light on an apparently violent relationship between Ramos and the man police now want to speak with, 35-year-old Thomas Howard Manjarez.
The order, filed Jan. 8, alleges Manjarez, the father of Ramos' three children, beat her in front of the couple's home in October, bloodying and bruising her for the children to see.
Then, on Jan. 3, Ramos said in the order that Manjarez called her with threats to “shoot me no matter where he sees me. At a grocery store, school, etc.”
Ramos canceled the order April 1.
Ten days later, family found her lying facedown and riddled with gunshot wounds in her apartment at 1307 Huestis Ave., a multi-unit house. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Allen County Coroner's Office on Monday reported that an autopsy showed Ramos died of gunshot wounds and ruled her death a homicide.
Her death marks Allen County's 11th homicide this year, 10 of which occurred inside city limits.
Manjarez has not been located, according to police spokeswoman Raquel Foster at press time.
Manjarez has three other active protective orders out against him, filed the same day earlier this year by three different individuals.
