Linn County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a murder-suicide at a home in Scio.
Charles John Posvar, 76, and his wife, Maria Patricia Posvar, 71, were found dead at their home on Mount Pleasant Drive by a neighbor on Monday. The neighbor went to check on the couple after receiving a call from a son, saying he hadn't heard from his parents in awhile, said Sheriff Tim Mueller.
"The neighbor went over and looked in a window and saw something was amiss," Mueller said.
Deputies were called to the scene at 10:35 a.m.
Sheriff Tim Mueller said it appeared that Charles Posvar shot his wife sometime between Friday and Sunday and then shot himself. A note was left, indicating that the shooting followed a family dispute, he said.
The shooting took sheriff's deputies by surprise. There was no history of domestic violence or any kind of violence at the residence, Mueller said.
"It was a beautiful home in the mountains on a nice piece of property," he said. "It's pretty tragic."
The couple had at least two sons.
This could be the second murder-suicide this year, following a shooting rampage in February by a Clackamas County sheriff's deputy that left the off-duty officer, his wife and a friend dead.
