Domestic violence cases on the rise in Mesa County

On sunday police say a man was shot and killed after he tried to diffuse a domestic dispute at his neighbor's house. Police say when emotions are high people in domestic violence cases tend to act out more aggressively, often times lashing out at uninvolved third parties. Sergeant Jim Creasy with the Grand Junction Police Department says, "Probably the safest thing to do is call the police be a good witness, probably don't get directly involved if you can help it."

Police say as a last resort; don't get involved unless it comes down to protecting yourself, a loved one or your property.
