CONCORD -- Police are investigating the stabbing death of a man that resulted from a fight with his estranged wife's male friend at her home Thursday morning.
The friend, an Oakland resident, was arrested shortly after he was seen driving from the area, police said. It was Concord's first homicide of the year.
The victim, identified as 43-year-old Robert Shaner of Concord, was stabbed about 10:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of Concord Boulevard, Concord police Lt. Jim Lardieri said.
After a witness called police about a fight in the home and provided information on a possible suspect vehicle, a nearby officer headed to the scene and saw the vehicle on Farm Bureau Road near Concord Boulevard. The officer detained the occupants, identified as 41-year-old James Edward Griffin and Shaner's estranged wife. Police did not release her name.
Other officers went to the woman's home where they found Shaner, who had been stabbed several times. He later died at a hospital.
