A 58-year-old man charged with killing the mother of his two children after she attempted twice to get a domestic violence protective order against him is expected in court this afternoon.
Gradie Lee Rhodes had just been released from prison for the murder of another ex-girlfriend with whom he had a child when he was charged with first-degree murder and weapons possession by a felon in the Dec. 4, 2005 death of Joyce Hoskins, a 47-year-old woman who was shot to death at 1002 Grace St.
On June 9, 1988, Rhodes shot and killed 21-year old Avonna Terry, the mother of his son.
He was convicted a year later of second-degree murder in her death.
After 2000, Rhodes married Hoskins while still in prison. The two have a grown daughter and a grown son.
On March 9, 2005, Rhodes was released on parole and placed under intense supervision, and he moved in with Hoskins.
She ended up dead in December of that year after failed attempts at getting two protective orders.
