KEENE, N.H. - A man who police say had taken his former girlfriend hostage in her home was shot and killed by a Keene police officer, the attorney general’s office said yesterday.
Officials have not released the name of the person who was shot or the name of the officer involved in the shooting, which happened about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials say Keene police and the State Police were called to the home about 9:45 p.m. by the woman’s child, who said the mother’s former boyfriend was inside and was threatening her. When police arrived, they found the man armed with a knife. He eventually held it to his former girlfriend, the attorney general’s office said.
After a time, the officer shot and wounded the suspect, who died later at a hospital. The woman was not injured.
Dale Guyer, a neighbor who lives across the street, said the couple mostly kept to themselves. He was not sure of their names. “We said hi to them; that was about it,’’ he said. He said he did not recall seeing any problems between them.
“She was a nice lady. . . . I was shocked by the whole thing,’’ he said.
