EUFAULA, Ala. (AP) — A Eufaula man who had been sought in the shooting death of his girlfriend was found dead in a creek, and authorities believe he drowned.
Eufaula police found 25-year-old Mecca Denise Henderson dead in her car on Tuesday and began a search for 27-year-old Jasper Lavar Toney, who they say was in a relationship with Henderson.
The Alabama Department of Corrections' tracking unit found Toney dead in a nearby creek. Officials say he apparently had drowned.
Barbour County Sheriff Leroy Upshaw said Toney was an inmate of the county jail out on work release.
The Dothan Eagle reports that Eufaula police say officers had responded to two calls at Henderson's residence in the weeks before her death.
