A preliminary exam for an Eastpointe man accused in the murder of his live-in girlfriend was adjourned today to March 5.

David Anthony Cook, 48, remains in the Macomb County Jail without bond on charges of first- and second-degree murder in the death of Latoya F. Lowery.

His preliminary exam will be held in 38th District Court in Eastpointe.

Lowery’s body was found Jan. 14 in the trunk of a car behind her home in the 17000 block of Lincoln, Eastpointe police said. They said Lowery, 35, the mother of seven children, was reported missing Jan. 11 by Cook and her aunt and uncle.

Police said the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Lowery’s cause of death was blunt force trauma and suffocation.
