State Police shot and killed a man after a hostage situation in Mason County.

The incident occurred Thursday night on Jerry's Run Road in Apple Grove.

At 8:30 p.m., dispatchers in Mason County got a call about a domestic/hostage situation.

Troy McQueen was holding his estranged wife, Rebeecca McQueen, hostage in a home before moving to a car, where the armed man continued to hold Rebecca captive, Cpl. Chris Zerkle said.

State Police and Mason County Deputies arrived on the scene where they planned a staging area not far from the home.

Zerkle said Rebecca drove the car to the staging area. That is when a gunshot rang out from inside the vehicle.

Police say McQueen shot Rebecca in her lower abdomen, through the groin.

Following the shooting, officers commanded McQueen to surrender his weapon. After he refused to drop the weapon, the officers, who felt they were in immediate threat, took action, according to the State Police.

A trooper fire four shots, one of which killed McQueen, according to the State Police.

At the time of the event, police say, there were no domestic violence petitions, but there had been in the past.

Rebecca was conscious and talking when pulled from the car. She was flown to a hospital in Huntington.
