A Huron man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing a Woonsocket woman and her unborn child.
Tuesday morning, 43-year-old Shannon Flowers pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and fetal homicide.
Both crimes carry a mandatory life sentence.
Flowers beat 20-year-old Brittney Chua with a pipe last February, then dumped her body at the city compost pile and buried it with branches and debris. Authorities say the two were having an affair and Flowers knew Chua was pregnant when he killed her.
Tuesday's pleas were part of an agreement. Flowers was earlier charged with murder and the state was seeking the death penalty.
This article is in error. Fetal homicide carries a mandatory life sentence, however, 1st degree manslaughter sentencing has yet to be determined following a presentencing investigation.
