A Miami-Dade psychologist and substance abuse counselor has accepted a plea deal in the death of his former patient and girlfriend.
Tuesday, 42-year-old Adam Feder pleaded guilty to guilty to manslaughter in the death of 20-year-old Rachel Finzi. As part of the plea, Feder will serve six years in prison; he had been facing up to 135 years.
Finzi's family says Rachel started seeing Feder professionally at North Miami's Compass Health Systems when she was 18-years old after a car accident left her boyfriend in a coma. Finzi's attorney C. David Durkee says when she came under Feder's care he gave her marijuana and illegal prescription medications and proceeded to engage in sexual relations with her. In early 2006, the relationship ended. Investigators say in May, Finzi went to Feder's residence and swallowed a number of pills and died from an overdose.
