A Fort Payne man was charged with murder Thursday afternoon after he allegedly killed his wife, Fort Payne Police Commissioner Ron Ogletree said.
Nathan Wilder, 30, surrendered to police officers who arrived within one minute after his call to Fort Payne 911, Ogletree said.
Ogletree said 911 dispatchers received a call about 12:18 p.m. from a man asking for police.
The man told dispatchers he had hurt his wife and believed she was dead, Ogletree said.
When officers responded to the home at 900 Grand Ave., the man came out on the porch and was taken into custody without incident.
The body of the 28-year-old woman was found in a bedroom at the home and she was pronounced dead by a DeKalb County deputy coroner, Ogletree said.
The woman and her husband were estranged, Ogletree said. Wilder lived at the home, but the woman did not, he said.
The woman’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. Wilder went before a judge and was charged late Thursday with murder, Ogletree said.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
