Ocala police say a man fatally shot his estranged wife, then turned the gun on himself.
Police identified the victims Tuesday as 41-year-old Elliott Torres and 40-year-old Marta Torres. A police report says Elliott Torres confronted his estranged wife where she worked, fatally shooting her before shooting himself.
The couple had recently moved to the Ocala area from Fort Myers. Marta Torres filed a report last week that said she was scared of her husband. Officers were told to keep an eye out for the yellow Hummer he drove. The wife had also been granted an injunction against her husband.
The couple leaves behind five children.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
