Hopkinsville, KY: Police: Man Shot Wife, Adult Son Before Killing Himself

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP/NewsChannel 5) - Police in Hopkinsville said a husband shot his wife and adult son before turning the gun on himself over the weekend.
Police spokesman Paul Ray said on Monday that 68-year-old Tommie Summers fired the shots that killed 67-year-old Linda Summers and their son, 38-year-old Brian Summers. Ray classified the killings Saturday as a murder-suicide.
Tommie and Linda Summers were pronounced dead inside their home. Brian Summers was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
"The initial call came out as three people shot," Hopkinsville Police Sergeant Kyle Spurlin said.
The victims were found by another son when he arrived at the house on Hillaire Drive around 9:45 a.m. and called for help.
"We heard sirens. Police started pulling up, pulling rifles out of their cars," neighbor John Kelly explained.
"We weren't for sure if there might be people still inside the house that is still currently shooting," Spurlin said. "Or if somebody was injured inside the house."
Neighbors were shocked by the news and said they saw the elderly man often.
"You don't meet people like that today. Nobody lends you a hand or whatever, and he would," Kelly said.
Two dogs were taken away by animal control, one with a gunshot wound to its face. Both are expected to recover.
