Belle Chasse, LA: Gretna man charged with stabbing girlfriend to death

Belle Chasse, La. -
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a Gretna man for second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend.
The Sheriff's Office says John Edward Rivers, Sr. called two off-duty Plaquemines Parish deputies Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and told them he stabbed his girlfriend, Wendy Ann Osborn, on Buccaneer Road in Belle Chasse.
An hour later, deputies say they located the 44-year-old woman's body at the location. They say Rivers surrendered to authorities around 9:15 p.m. and recovered the murder weapon.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the 54-year-old man told detectives that he and Osborn traveled to Buccaneer Road around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday to have sexual relations. They say Rivers admitted to stabbing the Gretna woman multiple times during a fight, then leaving her at the scene.
After an autopsy determined the stabbing death was a homicide, Rivers appeared before a magistrate judge Wednesday.  His bond was set at $1,000,000.
