Butler, PA: Woman charged with homicide in husband's death

A 58-year-old Butler woman was charged with criminal homicide after allegedly shooting her husband with a handgun during a dispute Saturday night.

Troopers said that the incident occurred at 10:30 p.m., along Tubbs Run Lane, Tionesta Twp., Forest County, when the accused, Ruth Maxine Angert, and the victim, her husband, Larry Bruce Angert, 68, both of Butler, became involved in a verbal argument.
The dispute escalated to the point where Ruth Angert brandished a handgun. Police said both the victim and the accused struggled over the weapon until it discharged, with the bullet striking Larry Angert in the head.

Police said the victim sustained fatal injuries as a result of the gunshot wound and died at the scene.

Troopers said Ruth Angert was taken into custody and charged with one count each of criminal homicide and aggravated assault. She was arraigned before on-call District Judge Laura Bauer and placed in the Warren County Jail without bond.
