Baton Rouge, LA: Woman gets 17 years in stabbing death

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 29-year-old Baton Rouge woman has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the stabbing death of her boyfriend after an argument at their home.
State District Judge Bonnie Jackson sentenced Katina Carter, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter, in the July 15th death of 26-year-old Ladrian Davis.
The Advocate reports Carter apologized Wednesday to Davis' family, saying she loved him. She says she was drunk when she stabbed Davis with a kitchen knife, contending it was an "accident and a mistake" fueled not by anger but fear.
Jackson says a pre-sentence investigation report showed Carter may have been the victim of domestic violence in previous relationships, but not with Davis. Jackson said Carter must pay a price for her actions and that price is 17 years in custody.
