Minden, LA: Minden man gets 28 years in ex-wife's death

Associated Press - November 30, 2009 4:54 PM ET

MINDEN, La. (AP) - A state district judge rejected a request for a new trial and sentenced Bobby Ray Ingram to 28 years in prison for manslaughter in the death of his ex-wife.

Ingram showed no emotion Monday as the sentence was read, unlike some in the Minden courtroom. Groans could be heard when District Judge Ford Stinson handed down the punishment.

Ingram has been jailed since his August manslaughter conviction in the October 2006 death of ex-wife Kimberly Ingram. He will have to serve 24 years of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

Ingram's attorneys said their client deserved a new trial because of the behavior of a juror who convicted him. The juror reportedly was involved in a domestic dispute over the lunch break during deliberations in Ingram's trial.
