MEAD, WA. -- Deputies announced late Wednesday that the man critically injured in an early morning domestic assault in North Spokane County will be charged with murdering his wife.
Deputies charged Jeff Canino, 46, with first-degree murder in Michelle Canino's death. Jeff remains in intensive care after undergoing surgery this morning.
The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. when a 911 operator received two calls minutes apart in which a woman was screaming on the other end.
When deputies arrived on the 4500 block of East Woodglen Road, the Canino's 12-year-old son answered the door with knife wounds to his hands.
Inside the home, deputies found Michelle Canino dead from stab wounds on the floor of the kitchen, and Jeff Canino critically injured. Deputies now say those wounds Jeff received were self-inflicted stab wounds.
Jeff was rushed into surgery and placed in intensive care. The 12-year-old boy was treated for his injuries, and released to his grandparents.
A knife was found in the kitchen sink, but it has not been confirmed as the knife used in the attack.
