DAYTON, Ohio - A man has pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter one day before the trial was set to start in the death of his girlfriend's brother.
DaJuan Bell entered the plea Monday in Montgomery County Court. He had been indicted on one count of murder in the slaying of Kantron Gipson on July 11 of this year.
Gipson was the brother of Chakisha Alstork, the mother of Bell's 2-year-old son.
Relatives said Bell was continuously hitting Alstork, and Gipson wanted Bell to stop. Gipson confronted Bell, and the two argued before Bell pulled a gun. Police said Gipson was shot in the back while running from Bell.
The 29-year-old Bell also pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of being a felon with a weapon.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
