A Pasco County man has been sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and shooting his then-estranged wife in 2006.
A judge sentenced 56-year-old Joseph Coleman on Thursday. He was convicted last month of attempted second-degree murder and kidnapping.
Coleman's now-former wife had testified that the couple were living apart in May 2006 when Coleman went to her home and shot her in the neck and shoulder. He told her he planned to drive around until she passed out and died. But as she was riding in his van, she jumped out of the vehicle and started running toward a nearby fire station.
A phone company employee spotted her and took her to the station. Paramedics stabilized her and took her to a Tampa hospital.
