KINGSTON – The 67-year-old man who shot and killed his girlfriend in her Milton home on October 28, 2008 is likely going to spend the rest of his life in prison for shooting his girlfriend to death.
Eddie Thompson, Jr. of Newburgh shot and killed Frances Johnson with two rounds at close range, one in the back and the other in the face.
He had been convicted of first-degree manslaughter last month.
District Attorney Holley Carnright termed the case one of domestic violence homicide. “Frances Johnson loved and trusted this defendant. She took him into her house,” he said. “What makes this case so tragic, as in so many other domestic violence cases, is that the victim knew the potential danger that she was in but somehow felt trapped and did not break free of the relationship.”
In sentencing Thompson, Acting Ulster County Court Judge Richard Sise said that while he is still alive, “you took the life of another human being.”
