Kansas City, MO: KC woman charged with killing partner who wanted to break up

A Kansas City woman has been charged with murdering her live-in partner Sunday night after the partner said she wanted to end their relationship.

Blanche L. Johnson, 38, was in the victim’s van in the 6600 block of South Benton Avenue when the victim, 38-year-old Yolanda Walker, said she wanted to break up, court documents say. Johnson then told Walker she “had something for her,” pulled a handgun and shot her twice in the chest, the documents say.

Johnson, who accidentally shot herself in the ankle during the incident, left Walker’s body in the driver’s seat and limped away from the scene, leaving a trail of blood.

Police arrested Johnson the next day. She is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

According to court documents, police had quelled a disturbance at the couple’s residence several hours before the shooting.
