(NECN: Manchester, NH) - An estranged husband and wife are dead after a bitter domestic dispute terrorized a Manchester, New Hampshire, neighborhood on Thursday.
Police say 29-year-old Melissa Charbonneau was shot and killed by her husband, who turned the gun on himself after a daylong standoff inside their Jewett Street home.
Two nearby schools were locked down and at one point, SWAT teams asked residents to stay in their homes and hide in their basements.
According to The Union Leader newspaper, Melissa Charbonneau had recently taken out a restraining order against her husband, who ambushed her when she entered the home to collect some of her belongings.
The Union Leader reports Charbonneau's father was carrying his wounded daughter outside when he was shot twice in the back. He is expected to be OK.
The couple had a seven-year-old son.
Friends say 32-year-old Jonathan Charbonneau was devastated when he learned he would not be allowed to see the boy until after the holidays, after his wife was awarded temporary custody of the child.
