Kerrville police officers shot and killed a male suspect early Monday morning, and police now believe the suspect fatally shot his 20-year-old girlfriend just minutes earlier.

The officers had been called to the Guadalupe Street Park area at about 12:50 a.m. after reports of a disturbance involving armed suspects in the 900 block of Guadalupe St. When the officers arrived, they were searching for the disturbance when a car pulled up, and Mario Ramirez exited the vehicle holding a handgun, police said.

KPD
Police say Mario Ramirez, 17, may have killed his girlfriend, 20-year-old Linda Lopez.
The officers ordered Ramirez, 17, to drop the gun, but he instead raised the gun and pointed it toward the officers, at which time they fired their duty weapons, striking Ramirez several times, according to police.

Ramirez was transported to Peterson Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, just minutes after the initial call, police received a second call, saying that a woman had been injured in the 400 block of Barker St. Officers found Linda Lopez, 20, dead upon arrival.

After an initial investigation by Kerrville Police, officers believe the Ramirez fatally shot Lopez before fleeing the scene. Police believe Lopez was Ramirez's girlfriend.

According to protocol, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on special assignment pending an investigation by the Texas Rangers.

The Kerr County Sheriff’s Department confirms that Ramirez has had several previous brushes with the law. In March he was arrested for possession of marijuana and in April he was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
