COULTERVILLE, IL (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - A shocking crime hits a small Illinois town. Three bodies were found inside one home and now the Randolph County Sheriff's Department is investigating what happened. The sheriff's department is calling this a double murder and suicide investigation. They plan on releasing more details Monday. The news of a double murder and suicide investigation rocked the small town of Coulterville, where just about everyone knows each other.
"I mean an unexpected shock nobody I know expected anything like this." John Lee Wilson says he knew the man now accused of killing two relatives before killing himself, "He used to come over when he was a little kid. I mean I knew him my whole life and he just didn't have this in him. He wasn't that type of person at all."
Neighbors say police surrounded the home where three victims were found. Wilson says the man's wife and child are okay - and says it was the man's inlaw's who were killed. He has no idea why it appears his life long friend suddenly snapped, "Especially him. He was an exceptionally kind hearted person, real congenial, real nice guy. I don't know what could have caused him to get into that frame of mind."
Neighbor Patty Loos added, "He was always laughing and joking with, always jokes with everybody."
For now, police are releasing few details and that's causing friends to simply wonder why two people were murdered and a third person took his own life.
Loos says, "It's just a hurting feeling for everybody, didn't know he would go the extreme."
Those in Coulterville who knew the victims will try and understand how a crime so horrible could happen in their small town and hope police can give them answers soon.
The Randolph County Sherrif, along with the county coroner and the Illinois State Police, are expected to release more information Monday. For now they say they're investigating a double murder and suicide.
